Engraved Crab Mallets

freezing cold ....

When it was -35 degrees this winter, it was 11 degrees in our home.
We obviously a problem with insulation or heating ... We were really confused, really hoping there is not a problem with the walls of straw!

We brought a team that specializes Infrared photography as well and we had to answer our questions.

The major problem is our house .... lack of heating!
Indeed, the electrician did not provide enough power when calculating the necessary heating for the home. There we would take almost twice as much!

Then the second problem is that some parts of the house are door overhang. We have isolated with heart, but experts have recommended to isolate them with urethane, which will seal better these parts easily accessible.

Finally, to our delight, the straw is problematic, but it's only temporary! Let me explain: the plaster is not yet complete. We still have about 1 inch of plaster to put this spring on the inside. For now, the 2x2 framing the straw in the plaster and skim to these places, they drive the cold. But in our room, we covered more of the 2x2 and plastered on the infrared photos, no temperature difference is noticeable here. This tells us that when the 2x2 will be completely covered with 1 inch of plaster, no cold will not be felt.

For cons, the joint between beams and walls of straw is more cold, although behind the beams there are so many straw elsewhere ... Strange! But this is hardly the heart of the problem! Whew!

So we have work to do to make the house more airtight and more powerful level of heating. We began by installing fans on cathedral ceilings and an air exchanger heat recovery.

We have no more hot, but at least we are reassured!

PS. And experts were very impressed by the enthusiasm that we put the house to insulate and seal each piece of vapor barrier! It was sacred cons acoustic sealant, but it was worth it!
